NBA Playoff Reactions: June 19, 2021

Milwaukee Bucks 115, Brooklyn Nets 111 (OT)

Bucks win series 4-3

FINAL BOX SCORE

This Game 7 lived up to the hype. It was competitive throughout, as the only double-digit margin occurred for a handful of seconds late in the second quarter. This game also had big performances from its two best players. Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team to the win with 40 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. Kevin Durant paced the Nets with 48 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

In the end, it was the Bucks winning out in a game where both teams’ rotations were at their tightest. Kevin Durant and James Harden played all 53 minutes of the game. Khris Middleton and Bruce Brown played just over 52 minutes while Giannis Antetokounmpo played 50 minutes. Jrue Holiday logged 48 minutes, Joe Harris played 47, and Brook Lopez played 46.

By overtime, both teams were pretty gassed, and Milwaukee barely edged out Brooklyn by hitting one extra field goal: a Middleton turnaround fadeaway jumper with 40 seconds remaining. The Bucks went 2-of-6 in the extra frame. Brooklyn went 1-of-12 and 0-of-5 from 3-point range. Kevin Durant took six of those shots and made none of them. Going to Durant in a crucial moment like overtime is normally the right move. Unfortunately, the fatigue was just too much this time around. His final shot attempt, that would have tied the game at 113, sailed out of bounds for an airball.

This series was an absolutely roller coaster ride! It’s great that things ended on a high note with such a fun, competitive matchup to decide who advances. In the end, even though it took five extra minutes to determine it, the Bucks just edged out a tough Brooklyn Nets team. They return to the conference finals after last being there in 2019. We’ll see if their experiences in this round make them a stronger team in the next.
