At the end of the day, it just feels good to commentate games. I have been spending months trying to figure out just the right grand project to bring to the Crucial Baskets YouTube channel for the NBA 2K20 cycle. Unfortunately, despite having a number of valid ideas, none of them pushed to the forefront.
With 2019 quickly coming to a close and no resolution in sight, I chose to take it back to basics and record a single Play Now mode exhibition game. We were rewarded with an electric point guard duel and a down-to-the-wire finish, as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Golden State Warriors 110-107 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
This game was a roller-coaster. Both teams basically traded baskets through the first quarter-and-a-half. Then, Portland began pulling away, reaching halftime with a 57-47 lead. The Trail Blazers managed to extend that lead to 17 points (86-69) with 1:18 left in the third. That’s when Golden State’s comeback bid began.
The Warriors closed out the third on a 7-0 run, bringing the margin back down to 10 points entering the final frame. GSW proceeded to claw their way back in the fourth, eventually making it a 108-107 game with 37.8 seconds left in regulation. However, they couldn’t find the go ahead bucket in the final seconds, and Portland hung on for the win.
This game was also headlined by the epic duel between Damian Lillard (43 points) and D’Angelo Russell (40 points). Both men played up to their All-Star abilities, carrying their teams through the ebbs and flows of this hard-fought game. Also, even though not it wasn’t emphasized in the highlight video, Hassan Whiteside had a mammoth game for the Blazers, scoring 22 points and pulling down 23 rebounds.
But don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself! It was a fun game to do and it just felt good to commentate again as opposed to getting stuck behind idea overload, Excel spreadsheets, and perfectionism. You can check out the highlight video at the top of this article or at this link. The full version of this game is available at the top, in the description box of the highlight video, or at this link. Also, don’t forget to give the video a like and subscribe to the YouTube channel, as there are plenty more Play Now commentaries on the way!
